Independent industry research · Fieldwork July to October 2026
The State of the UK Built Environment 2026
How the industry is really doing this year: workload, pipeline, margins, late payment, skills and what's actually happening with AI.
Anonymous, around seven minutes, almost all single taps. Whether your business uses AI or not, your answers are the data. Especially if it doesn't.

No name, company or email is collected with your answers, and we don't use IP-based tracking.
Around seven minutes
Closed questions, one per screen, built to be answered on a phone. One optional text box at the end.
Findings first
Take part and you can ask for the full findings before public release in November 2026.
Seven minutes on how your business is really doing
Answer for the business you own, run or work in. Every question is about your reality this year, not what the industry is supposed to say. If the form doesn't load here, take the survey directly at tally.so.
What the survey covers
Workload and pipeline
How busy you are against last year, and how far ahead you can actually see.
Margins and payment
Net margin bands, late payment, write-offs and who the worst payers are.
People and skills
Whether the skills shortage is costing you work, and which roles you can't fill.
How the business runs
What's on software and what still runs on spreadsheets, WhatsApp and paper.
AI in practice
Who's using it, what for, and whether it has saved anyone real time or money yet.
Barriers and trust
What's stopping wider use, and whether you'd put AI's work in front of a client.
The year ahead
Your confidence in your own business against your confidence in the industry.
How anonymity works here
- No name, company name or email address is collected with your answers.
- We don't use IP-based tracking. Duplicate checks work through your browser, not your identity.
- Responses are stored in the EU and reported in aggregate, as percentages. The one optional written comment may be quoted anonymously in the report; the survey says so at that question, and you can leave it blank.
- If you choose to leave an email for early findings, it's collected on a separate form and is never linked to your responses.
- The full methodology (fieldwork dates, sample size, how people were recruited, data cleaning) is published with the report, and the detail is in our privacy policy.
Independent research, published free
The survey is run and funded by Built Logic, an AI partner to UK construction and built-environment businesses. There is no sponsor, nothing is sold to people who take part, and no product appears in the questions.
The findings are published free to the whole industry in November 2026, with sector, region and size breakdowns. If you run a trade body, publication or community and want the survey in front of your members or readers, write to [email protected].
